iPhone 17: Release date, production status, and expected design details
Apple's next smartphone will be released in just under two months. Fresh details have now emerged ahead of the release.

It won't be long now until Apple releases this year's iPhones: all signs point to September being the month. Just in time for production to start, fresh details about the new models have been leaked from Asia and elsewhere. These include changes to Apple's Dynamic Island mini display, the exact launch date, device production, and possible special colors.
The date of the iPhone keynote
Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman believes that Apple's iPhone event is likely to fall in the week beginning September 8 (calendar week 37). The actual date could be September 9, as Apple likes Tuesdays for events. Alternatives include Monday (8) or Wednesday (10). Apple never uses Fridays or weekends, as pre-orders are often made available on Fridays. Last year, Apple held its iPhone 16 event on September 9 (Monday), with pre-orders starting the following Friday (September 13).
A total of four new iPhone models are expected. The standard iPhone 17 will be joined by the new iPhone 17 Air with an extra-thin case, as well as the Pro models iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, which are likely to feature the best chip and camera equipment. A Plus model, i.e., a large standard iPhone, is reportedly not planned this time around. In addition to the new iPhones, if Apple sticks to its usual playbook, new Apple Watch models are also expected, with the third version of the Apple Watch Ultra considered particularly interesting, among other things due to its satellite radio capability.
According to reports from India, production of the iPhone 17 has now started. Manufacturer Foxconn has reportedly started production runs in both India and China. Key components such as the casing, screen and camera are said to have already arrived at the factories in recent weeks. All devices – with the possible exception of the iPhone 17 Air – are to be manufactured in India from the outset.

Colors and other details
Apple is reportedly planning special colors for the Pro models, including a "copper-like orange," according to leak expert Sonny Dickson. Otherwise, black, gray, and silver are likely to be available for the models, similar to last year. The new camera arrangement is said to span the entire width of the case.
Apple is reportedly planning a special color called "Sky Blue" for the iPhone 17 Air. This is rather subdued, according to leaker Majin Bu. He also claims to have heard that Apple is working on Dynamic Island. This is expected to undergo a "significant evolution in the coming years," with more features and greater integration. Apple uses the space around the iPhone's camera notch to display additional information and live activities.
