India: 53 percent more iPhone produced
Apple is continuing to massively expand its iPhone production on the subcontinent. This is apparently succeeding despite resistance from China.

Despite Apple's increasing difficulties in shipping specialists and materials from China to India to set up production there, the proportion of iPhones manufactured on the subcontinent is growing steadily. According to a new study by the market research institute Canalys, quoted by Yahoo, production rose by 53 percent to 23.9 million iPhones within a year. Currently, between 16 and 17 percent of all Apple phones are said to come from India, with some observers even talking about 20 percent. An important milestone is 2027: Apple wants to have reached 25 percent by then.
More and more production in India
The plan remains to manufacture almost all iPhones destined for the USA on the subcontinent to avoid possible punitive tariffs on Chinese goods as part of the ongoing trade war between the USA and China. The problem is that the Trump administration has long opposed this plan and wants Apple to manufacture iPhones in the USA.

However, Apple's course towards India continues undeterred with the help of its suppliers. The Group's most important manufacturer, Foxconn, plays a central role here, as do other contract manufacturers from Taiwan and increasingly also from India itself. Since last year, high-end models such as the iPhone 16 Pro have also been assembled in the country. With the iPhone 17 this fall, all models except for the very thin Air are to roll off the production line directly on the subcontinent. Apple's iPhone business has recently improved again, with the number of devices delivered in the first quarter increasing by 13 percent, despite a difficult market environment.
Increased interest in the iPhone 16
Meanwhile, Apple's exports from India are growing rapidly. In May, it was reported that the value had increased by over 100 percent. Apple has already become an important asset for the Indian economy, as demonstrated by the positive treatment of the company by the political leadership when Apple CEO Cook is in the country.
At the same time, Apple also seems to be succeeding in selling more products in India, which is now the world's most populous nation. Canalys also stated that the iPhone 16 recently sold well and accounted for 55% of total sales. However, Apple currently (Q2 2025) only ranks 6th among all smartphone sellers in India.
