Microsoft discontinues M365 from the Store
Some Microsoft 365 users will soon be without updates: Anyone who obtains the apps from the store must now take action and reinstall them manually.

No more M365 apps from the Microsoft Store: Microsoft is discontinuing support for the programs installed in this way. Specifically, they will no longer receive feature updates from October 2025, and security patches will no longer be distributed from December 2026. This primarily affects end users; companies and public authorities do not usually obtain the applications from the Microsoft Store.
According to Microsoft, they should switch to the click-to-run version, which is the standard for the package. These applications can be installed via the regular Microsoft 365 installer – but it automatically removes the Store version. Consequently, Microsoft explicitly points out that documents must be saved and the M365 programs must be closed beforehand.

Users can find out whether they have installed the Click-to-Run or Store version by clicking on File and then Account and Product Information under About. Microsoft does not state in the announcement of the end of support whether users will receive an additional warning. Therefore, if in doubt, we recommend checking your own M365 version manually.
