Image leak: iPhone 17 Pro escaped?
A leaker has discovered a person in San Francisco apparently carrying a new-generation developer iPhone. It corresponds to previous rumors.

Apple seems to be barely able to keep its iPhone 17, which is expected at the beginning of September, under wraps: Following more detailed leaks about the camera technology of the Pro models, one of the models is now said to have surfaced "in the wild" for the first time. At least that's what one person on X claims, who has also posted corresponding images. They allegedly originate from San Francisco and were manufactured at Union Square there. Apple itself is based in Cupertino, but has many employees who live in San Francisco. It is not possible to say for certain whether the pictures are genuine. However, the well-known Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman gave his approval: "Wow. That looks real," he responded to the posting.
Not really much to see
The two images shared by the X user named "Fox Pupy", who claims to be a musician, show a person wearing an Adidas cap and mirrored sunglasses, holding a normal (i.e. already available) iPhone in one hand and an as yet unknown model in the other. On this device, which is apparently in a case and can be seen from behind, it can be seen that both the LIDAR sensor and flash are positioned on the far right.

This speaks for Apple's alleged new arrangement of the camera module across the entire width of the housing (familiar from some Android models). Furthermore, an area in the top left of the case is kept free, which speaks for Apple's allegedly planned second camera control button – According to the aforementioned camera leaks, this will be added to make it easier to take photos in certain situations.
It wouldn't be the first time
A second image shows the person filming or photographing the new iPhone with the old one. Here you can also see that the case is quite thick, but not much more. "Fox Pupy" writes in his post that he has just seen a "test development iPhone in the wild". One of the people, the poster goes on to write, was apparently a security guard who tried to hide the device.
It is common knowledge that Apple gives its employees test devices so that they can be checked in public. One such device was once stolen from a pub. However, the cover that Apple appears to be using in the X photo does not seem to hide very much. The arrangement of the LIDAR and flash alone speak for the new design. What is confusing, however, is that the person appears to be using the device in plain sight – This is definitely not in line with Apple's security standards.
