Apple Retail: conversions, closures, waiting for more German stores
Consolidation or simple remodeling? Apple's retail stores are not coming to rest at the moment. In Germany, further expansion is stagnating.

Apple currently has a whole list of stores in its retail chain that are either being relocated, remodeled or even closed. For the first time, an Apple store in China is closing down. The reasons given in each case are local changes –, including the fact that a shopping center in which the store is located has fewer visitors or it is apparently wiser for Apple to serve other markets in the vicinity. At the same time, there are also new openings: Apple may soon be coming to Saudi Arabia and wants to expand in India and the Emirates. In Germany, on the other hand, there has been no news of expansion for some time.
Adjustments to market conditions
According to a current list published by Macrumors, a total of six Apple stores will be closed this year or at least closed for weeks or months due to renovations. The most prominent store affected is likely to be the one in Dalian, China. The aim here is to attract customers to a nearby store. "Various retailers have been withdrawn" from the mall in Dalian, which is why this decision was taken.

In August and October, stores in Bristol (UK), Michigan (Clinton Township, USA) and Hornsby (Australia) will also be closed. A store in Northbrook, Illinois, already closed in April. Stores in New York (Roosevelt Field), Texas (Baybrook), Florida (The Galleria) and Las Vegas (Forum Shops) are among those being remodeled. Stores in Pittsburgh (USA), The Hague (Netherlands), Shenzhen (China), Chatswood (Australia) and Detroit (USA) will be newly opened or reopened in August.
Management restructuring too
Apple's stores are now under the responsibility of Vanessa Trigub, who is in charge of "Worldwide Retail Store Operations". As Vice President, she is to relieve Deirdre O'Brien, the top boss in this area. She is "Senior Vice President Retail + People" and is considered a reliable bank for Apple, having been with the company for more than 30 years.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear how a possible German Apple retail expansion will proceed. There are currently 16 stores spread across the country, although there are a number of federal states (such as Rhineland-Palatinate, Bremen and Saxony-Anhalt) that do not yet have a store. The second Apple store was recently added in Berlin. There is still no sign of a store supposedly planned for Dortmund in 2025, and a third store in Munich is also not yet in sight.
