macOS 15.7 is apparently coming quickly
Developers have briefly been given access to a release candidate of macOS 15.7. However, macOS 15.6 is still very fresh.

This week, Apple has made a release candidate (RC) version of macOS 15.7 available to developers participating in the manufacturer's developer beta program. This is unusual, as macOS 15.6 was only released on July 29 and there was no beta phase of macOS 15.7. Normally, this lasts at least several weeks (if not months) before the RC and finally the final version are released.
Apparently it's all about security
Also interesting: macOS 15.7 is currently not (or no longer?) listed in the beta section on Apple's developer website. Instead, only the betas of macOS 26, iOS 26, and co. can be downloaded there, as well as the final versions of macOS 15.6, iOS 18.6, and co. as restore image files. The Apple blog 9to5Mac speculates that macOS 15.7 is a backporting update that brings security holes already implemented in macOS 26 (currently: Developer Beta 5) to the current macOS version.

In addition to macOS 15.7, macOS 14.8 has also appeared as a release candidate version. The package inserts for macOS 15.7 and macOS 14.8 speak in favor of security measures: Apple only writes that the respective update contains “important security fixes” and “recommended for all users” is the usual little phrase for pure security updates.
“Backporting” instead of rapid security response
It is unclear how quickly macOS 15.7 and macOS 14.8 will be released. In the event of important security problems, Apple would also have the option of rolling out rapid security response updates, but the company has only done this extremely rarely to date. RSRs make it possible to react faster than with regular updates and should also be quicker to install, although this is not always the case in practice.
It is currently expected that there will only be one more update – macOS 15.7 – before the release of macOS 26. However, this should contain more than just security fixes, as it would then be the last “real” update for macOS Sequoia. With the release of macOS 26 in September, there will then only be security-related bug fixes for the macOS 15 series if Apple sticks to its usual procedure.
