MacBook Pro with OLED: coming in 2026 or 2027?
Fans of Apple's professional notebook have been waiting a long time for a redesign with a better screen. According to a report, they have to be more patient.

When will MacBook Pro models come with a new design? Apple has not updated the look of its devices since 2021. Following rumors back in July that an update to the series with the M5 chip might not happen this year, a well-known Apple journalist is now writing about a postponement of the redesign of the professional notebooks. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, a “revised model” with an M6 SoC and OLED screen will be launched “between late 2026 and early 2027.” Previously, the devices were expected to be launched at the end of 2026.
Shifts for the previous model too
Apple traditionally updates its MacBook Pro machines in the fall: they are launched in October and often shipped in November. This year, however, Apple is reportedly not ready in time. M5 machines are currently not expected before January 2026 – This is only an SoC upgrade, not a redesign. A MacBook Pro M6 would have been expected at the end of 2026, i.e., in October at the earliest, but according to Gurman, this could now move to spring 2027 – possibly also to put more distance between the series.

There has already been an example of shifts that brought two generations in one year: M2 Pro and M2 Max Macs were released in January 2023, M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max machines then in October 2023. However, there was no redesign in between, which users are now waiting for. Apple's M5 SoC has not yet been released. While the iPad Pro M4 pioneered the use of a new chip last year, an iPad Pro M5 is not expected before the fall.
What the MacBook Pro should be able to do in future
No matter how the release calendar ultimately turns out, prospective buyers should proceed with caution. As soon as it is clear that Apple will redesign the MacBook Pro M6, the M5 predecessor will become much less interesting.
Currently, the rumor mill is assuming that the redesign will bring Apple's largest OLED screen to date (which is currently only available in 11 and 13-inch versions in the iPad Pro M4) as well as an overall thinner casing and a camera notch that has finally been removed. The difference in performance between the M4 and M5 is likely to be rather moderate.
