Discovered: Apple's new screensaver from macOS 26 Tahoe on the web
macOS 26 alias Tahoe is still only available as a beta. However, Apple's new screensavers, as always of high quality, can already be accessed online.

In addition to a significantly redesigned interface with Apple's new Liquid Glass UI, macOS 26 aka Tahoe also comes with new wallpapers. In addition to a dynamic color gradient that has been revised for macOS 26 and changes throughout the day, there are also various new nature images. These include a shot of the high mountain lake in California, after which the operating system is named. This nature image is available in several variants that show the same scene in different lighting conditions. Apple has also included various other new background images from India and the Himalayas. Many of them also come with their screensaver, which runs in the macOS lock screen or can be activated individually. As it turns out, these are already available on the web. The corresponding URLs have now been published on X and Macrumors. The screensavers can be viewed there and downloaded if desired.
Fifteen new screensavers
There are screensavers of the Lake Tahoe wallpaper in the variants morning, day, evening, and night. Apple has a daytime view and a summit view of the Himalayas, as well as a sightseeing flight. India is again represented with beach views from Goa and a coastal view from Goa. There are also tea fields by day, in the fog, as an aerial view and as an overflight of a dam. Finally, Apple also sends users to Ghansali and the river Ganges.
The images can all be played back directly in the browser and come in 4K resolution with up to 240 frames per second (with a suitable display). However, Apple does not use high dynamic range (HDR) technology, but this is not yet standard for screensavers. It is not possible to integrate the new screensavers directly into macOS 15 or earlier. However, you can use free apps such as Aerial Companion.

Videos also as desktop background
With additional tools, it is also possible to use a screensaver (or another video) as a macOS desktop background. We will be testing two such apps in the next issue of Mac & i: Wallper (10 US dollars) and Wallpaper Play (free).
Incidentally, you may receive an error message when you call up the links: In the Firefox URL filter, which is actually supposed to warn of malware, “sylvan.apple.com” is listed as possibly harmful – why exactly remains a mystery.
