Apple Watch Ultra 3: top model again at last?
Many fans of Apple's top-of-the-range watch were disappointed last year. Now it looks like the Ultra 3 will make up for the wait.
Apple Watch Ultra: No major changes for two years.

The leap from the Apple Watch Ultra to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 in 2023 was already small: a slightly faster system-in-package (Apple-S9-SiP), a brighter screen, a (not particularly) “magical” (Apple's own words) double-tap gesture, and other minor improvements—that's it. Accordingly, the pressure to upgrade from owners of the previous version was rather low. The same applied to last year, when Apple did not launch a completely new top-of-the-range watch but only an additional color (“black”). Accordingly, the tension is now rising: will Apple finally launch an Apple Watch Ultra 3 in September that deserves its name thanks to new features? An overview of the rumors so far.
Finally back up to date
The previously missing Ultra 3 created a strange limbo: Apple's top computer watch was no longer Apple's top computer watch. The reason: last year's Series 10 added a whole range of new functions that were only available on the standard watch but not on the Ultra 2. This is now set to change with the Ultra 3.

The next-generation OLED is said to have a higher viewing angle, as we know it from the Series 10. In addition, LTPO3 technology is said to be installed, which allows more frequent refreshes in always-on mode (e.g., for the second hand). According to leaks, a slightly larger display is also expected at 422 x 514 instead of 410 x 502 pixels. Finally, Apple will deliver a slightly faster processor with the new S11-SiP, although this will probably not have a new microarchitecture. It is to be hoped that more on-device AI applications will be possible, but full Apple Intelligence support is not to be expected.
New functions in the Apple Watch Ultra 3
Otherwise, new features in the wireless sector are planned, allegedly for the first time (reduced) 5G instead of just LTE and satellite messaging. There is also some hope that Apple will make it possible to measure blood pressure (optically) for the first time, although this is unlikely to be a real display of measured values but only a measurement of changes in a basic value.
This means that you have to use a real blood pressure monitor to find out where you currently lie, and the Watch only alerts you when it detects that something has changed. The watch's body temperature measurement works similarly, which also only indicates changes. Apple is currently including more and more data as so-called vital signs in a kind of overall score. There is also a dedicated vital signs app for this.
