Qi2.2: Faster charging thanks to iOS 26 with suitable hardware
The first devices with Qi2.2 turn up the inductive power supply from 15 to 25 watts. The iPhone 16 starts with iOS 26.

Faster charging via update: One of the new features in iOS 26 is the activation of the Qi2.2 charging function for four iPhone 16 models. The 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max variants can then be supplied with up to 25 watts of inductive power as part of the standard if a suitable charger is available. The first models are slowly coming onto the market.
It already works with MagSafe alone
Qi2.2 is the successor to Qi2 with its maximum 15 watts, which in turn has internal similarities to MagSafe, as Apple is now involved in the formulation of the standard. With MagSafe alone, charging with 25 watts has been possible for some time, provided you invest in a current MagSafe charging puck from Apple with a power supply unit capable of at least 30 watts. Compatibility with pure Qi2.2 chargers for maximum charging speed will in turn be established with iOS 26.

It can be assumed that the new devices in the iPhone 17 line will support Qi2.2 from the outset. However, Apple's current entry-level iPhone, the 16e, is not covered. This is because the hardware does not even have MagSafe. Instead, it can be charged (non-magnetically) with a maximum of Qi1 and 7.5 watts. Internally, Apple probably sees no interest from customers. Accordingly, there will be no upgrade to Qi2.2.
Triple charger with Qi2.2 and MagSafe
The manufacturer Kuxiu, known for its Smart Connector chargers for the iPad and other accessories, is one of the first providers of Qi2.2-certified chargers. The X40 Turbo is a foldable 3-in-1 charging stand that can also be used for normal MagSafe. It can charge the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at the same time, meaning it has a charging surface for smartphones and Apple plugs plus a rear charging puck for the Apple Watch. The device, which is available in black and gray, costs just under 70 euros and is already delivered. A power adapter with a charging cable and bag is included in the package.
With Qi2.2, up to 25 watts can be delivered to the iPhone via induction. It initially remained unclear whether this is already possible—via MagSafe, as with Apple—or whether iPhone 16 users will have to wait until iOS 26 with Qi2.2 support is released. The iOS 26 beta already supports Qi2.2.
