Report: Apple's foldable device like "two iPhone Airs side by side"
What will Apple's first foldable iPhone look like? One reporter believes the device, expected to launch next year, will have a familiar look.

Apple will reportedly base the design of its upcoming foldable iPhone on the iPhone Air. This was reported by the usually well-informed Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman in his newsletter on Sunday. According to the information he received, users should “increasingly” imagine “two iPhone Air models made of titanium side by side.” “In other words, it will be super thin and a design achievement.”
How thick will the iPhone foldable be?
If the information is correct, however, the iPhone foldable would be thicker than its competitors: at its thinnest point, the iPhone Air is 5.64 mm thick, while Samsung's current Galaxy Z Fold7 measures 4.2 mm (outside the camera area) when unfolded. However, it can be assumed that Apple will also make the Air design for its foldable phone even thinner, as this will provide more space for the installation of the battery and other components.

Gurman goes on to write that the foldable iPhone will be the “star” of Apple's product lineup for 2026. Work on it is continuing in Cupertino and at suppliers and manufacturing facilities worldwide. Production is expected to take place not only in India, but also at Foxconn in China. Apple may once again split production, supplying the US from India to avoid tariffs on Chinese goods, should these be reintroduced.
$2,000 – as an entry-level price
Apple is likely to be very keen on the price: Gurman believes in prices of “at least” 2000 US dollars, which could mean 2450 euros in Europe. With more memory, the foldable iPhone could climb to 2600 dollars and break the 3000 euro mark for the top model in Europe. “It will also be ridiculously expensive compared to previous iPhones,” writes Gurman.
In terms of availability, Gurman mentions the usual iPhone fall date – that would be September 2026. Among other things, the foldable iPhone is said to have a particularly smooth screen with no visible crease and a particularly stable mechanism – including hinge/folding mechanism –. Thanks to its titanium construction, the iPhone Air is already considered very stable and break-resistant – despite its enormous thinness for an iPhone.
