Dictionaries in macOS 26: What's changing in Tahoe
Apple updates the lexical inventory on Macs and adds 26 new languages with macOS. An overview.

With macOS 26 alias Tahoe, Apple introduces its revised Liquid Glass design. It is also reflected in the slightly visually customized Dictionary app. However, the version number of the program has remained unchanged at v2.3.0 since macOS 11 Big Sur, and the build number 294 has remained unchanged since Sonoma. There do not appear to be any functional changes. This is initially a good thing, as existing and old plug-ins for the application are still fully compatible. Nevertheless, there are quite a few new features in terms of content.
Fresh content
Compared to Sequoia (macOS 15), Tahoe has been expanded to include nine encyclopedias that can be downloaded and installed via the application settings. This means that a total of 85 free dictionaries are now available in macOS. 19 have been slightly updated.

Hindi and Kazakh–English, the vocabulary was reduced slightly. There were larger increases in the New Oxford American Dictionary (6427 new entries), Oxford Dictionary of English (1134 new entries), Cantonese –English (13468 new entries). The Duden dictionary remains the same as in 2020; 243 translations have been added for German–English.
New storage location
In macOS 26, the storage location of the loaded dictionaries has also changed. This is now located here:
/System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_DictionaryServices_dictionary3macOS
