Vision Pro: Apple announces new immersive films
Only a few films are still utilizing the technical possibilities of Apple's headset. The Group is now entering into video cooperations with other partners.

Apple's own Vision Pro headset can play 3D films from the Apple TV application, Disney+, and others and also works with VR180 and VR360 with the right apps. However, virtual reality content only becomes really interesting when it can utilize the full possible resolution of the 4000 Euro device. This is the case with Apple Immersive Videos. The problem: these are only being produced slowly; there are no feature-length films in the technology—not even entire live sporting events. Apple itself therefore works with partners time and again to produce content. The company has now announced this once again: a fresh portfolio of immersive films is planned for the coming months.
Various new partners at the start
The new (and some old) partners include the video producers Red Bull, BBC, CNN, and Canal+; the South Korean music management company Hybe; the MotoGP racing series; and the car manufacturer Audi. Apple Immersive Video has “redefined the possibilities of storytelling” and puts the audience “in the middle of the action with an extraordinary sense of presence,” says Apple's global product marketing manager Bob Borchers.

The issue remains that the content is still a kind of showcase: they are impressive in their own right, but permanently longer films potentially take some getting used to for the viewer. It is therefore understandable that Apple does not publish two-hour films. However, this also means that there are unlikely to be any cinema hits in this format for the foreseeable future—at least nothing like this is known. Apple's hit film “F1” is also not available as an Apple Immersive Video but only as an additional IMAX version.
Fresh episodes of “Wild Animal Kingdom”
Planned for the coming months include the MotoGP documentary “Tour de Force” (with Canal+), an all-round look at Red Bull sport (“World of Red Bull”), a trip to Antarctica with penguins (CNN), the rainforest documentary “Julaymba” (Phoria), and a boy band documentary on CORTIS (from HYBE).
Apple will also provide its own immersive programs, such as “Wild Animal Kingdom” and “Flight of Fancy,” with new episodes. Most of the new content should be available by October. The content can be used via the TV app; not all videos are available in all countries. Many of the new films were shot with the URSA Cine Immersive camera from Blackmagic Design and edited on the Mac with DaVinci Resolve Studio, says Apple.
