Samsung confirms foldable display order from "American company"
The industry sparrows have been whistling from the rooftops for a long time that Apple will launch its first foldable iPhone next autumn. Now Samsung is too.

Samsung is apparently leaking Apple's foldable plans: the South Korean company's display subsidiary announced at a press event last week that the screen manufacturer had a new order from a “North American customer” who wants to buy an “OLED for foldable phones.” The business portal ChosunBiz writes.
“In the middle of preparations” for display production
Samsung Display President Lee Cheong did not disclose which customer was involved, but no one besides Apple comes into question. Parallel to the mass production of the new foldable screen, for which he did not provide any technical details, the production of OLEDs for IT devices in the new 8.6 generation is also beginning. Regarding the foldable, Lee went on to say that preparations are “in the middle” and are going well. He could not give any specific details about the customer.

The market currently expects Apple to launch its first foldable in September 2026. Most recently, it was rumored to be a kind of doubled iPhone Air. However, it can be assumed that it will be significantly thinner again. The current 5.64 mm at the thinnest point of the Air beats Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge, but foldables such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 go down to 4.2 mm when unfolded, as they can arrange the components and battery over a larger area.
Rumours are confirmed: Wait until fall
It has been clear in the rumor mill for some time that Samsung Display will supply the screen. According to several reports, Apple is having it produced to its exact specifications. The iPhone currently contains panels from Samsung, LG, and—especially in the Chinese market—BOE. Apple wants a particularly smooth screen without the famous foldable “crease.” The company is also working on a new type of hinge that should be particularly durable.
Apple has taken a long time to realize its foldable plans. Samsung's first Galaxy Fold mobile phone was launched back in 2019. The new hardware is rumored to come with an A20 SoC, two (or three) rear cameras, and possibly the Touch ID fingerprint sensor again, as there may not be room for Face ID facial recognition. The price is likely to be around 2000 euros and more.
Samsung Display's press agency in South Korea told Mac & i that the information about a display order from an “American company” was a “misunderstanding” during a question and answer session. Samsung Display CEO Yi Chung did not answer this question, they say, but only stated that no details about customers could be disclosed. ChosunBiz has since deleted the statement from its article.
