Apple's supply chain has created more than 350,000 jobs on the subcontinent in the past five years—in supplier companies alone, according to informed sources in the Indian government. According to a report in the local business newspaper Economic Times, this involves 230,000 jobs that were “also” created because of Apple—at around 45 companies that manufacture components, among other things. 120,000 positions were created "directly," i.e., only because Apple organized larger orders.
Model China now also in India
The iPhone manufacturer has invested heavily in factories in the country in recent years. They are operated—as usual with Apple—by manufacturers such as Foxconn (Taiwan) or Tata (India). Most recently, over 25 percent of all the group's smartphones were assembled on the subcontinent. However, the majority of the necessary parts come from China and other supplier countries such as South Korea, Vietnam, and Taiwan. The fact that suppliers in India are now also creating more jobs shows that Apple is trying to create local structures at the same time.

The “Playbook” follows Apple's approach in China, where the company is very “hands-on” and shows its manufacturers and component suppliers exactly how and which products should be built. As a result, many of the companies are also active in other areas, as was recently mentioned in the book “Apple in China.” This also has an impact on other markets. However, Apple has been massively active in China since the mid-1990s, with investments totaling almost 160 billion US dollars in 2012. It is expected that the company will also invest enormous sums in India.

However, India has not yet reached China's level. In 2025, at least temporarily, around 1.4 million people were working in Apple production in the country, with 350,000 people working at one site for the iPhone alone.
Current suppliers in India include Tata Electronics, Titan Engineering, Avary, and others. One of the reasons for the increased production in India is the US tariffs, which the Trump administration does not like at all. It wants Apple's production to return to the USA.
