Bloomberg: MacBook Pro M5 this year after all?
For a long time, it was rumored that Apple would not be launching new M5 Macs until next spring. Now there is speculation to the contrary—with a special feature.

When will the first Macs with the brand new M5 chip arrive? After speculation for a long time that the devices would not be released until spring 2026, there are now, for the first time, contrary views from the right people. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is considered to be well wired when it comes to Apple, now writes that at least one model could be ready soon.
Stocks are emptying—new devices?
This is about the successor to the MacBook Pro M4—of a notebook variant with a simple M5 chip without Pro and Max. Gurman says that both the iPad Pro M4 and the MacBook Pro M4 are “fairly limited” in Apple's retail shops and in the company's online store—at least in the USA. This is “a good sign for an imminent debut of the iPad Pro M5”. But also, and this is new, the entry-level MacBook Pro with M5 chip and 14-inch screen.

The iPad Pro M5 is expected to appear very soon; there was a major leak of model numbers by the US communications regulator FCC and a Russian YouTuber. However, a MacBook also appeared in the FCC's database that seemed puzzling to observers. It looked like a model with an M5 chip. Apparently, this is the entry-level device in the Pro line. So far there has been no word of a completely new low-cost MacBook, which is also said to be on Apple's agenda.
Staggered release of the M5 Macs
It is now conceivable that Apple will present the 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 in October together with the new iPad Pro M5, but not other Macs with M5, which could then only follow in the spring. This means that professionals who usually wait for the variants with Pro and/or Max chips will have to be patient. A date between January and March would be conceivable.
Gurman claimed in the summer that Apple would not release any MacBook Pro models with M5 before spring 2026. However, he had already changed his mind at the time: at the beginning of 2025, he had still assumed that the M5 machines would still arrive in 2025. No really exciting changes besides the M5 are expected. MacBooks with an OLED screen are reportedly not due to be released until the end of 2026, by which time they will already have an M6 chip. Apple currently only sells two devices with large OLEDs: iPad Pro M4 in the 11 and 13-inch versions.
