Clips App for Video: Apple is Apparently Discontinuing It
No updates for a long time, removal from the App Store, and a new support document with export information: Clips is probably dead.
Apple's Clips App: Apparently only semi-successful.

Apple is burying its app Clips, which first appeared in 2017. The tool allowed users to record short video clips on iPhone and iPad, add overlays and animations, edit with filters, and shorten them with simple means. Over the years, there were continuous improvements, such as the integration of Memojis and Animojis and the use of the LIDAR scanner in current iPhones for augmented reality recordings. The app thus picked up on the trend of short videos like those on TikTok even before they became widespread.
New Users Are Out
However, Apple has not updated Clips with new features for years recently, only incorporating bug fixes from time to time. This culminated in Apple officially removing the application from the App Store. Although there are still references to the app on the German website, Apple's US site redirects to a user manual that will no longer be useful in the future.
In an English-language support document, the discontinuation is then communicated specifically: Apple states the date of the app's removal from the App Store as last Friday (October 10). Clips was no longer specifically adapted for iOS 26 and iPadOS 26, but is intended to remain functional for now. Since Apple quickly pre-installed the app on all iPhones, many users will continue to have access. A re-download from the App Store is also possible if the application was previously installed.

Tips for Exporting—App Recommendations
In the support document, Apple further explains how users should proceed to export their videos. They can export them with or without effects to the media library of the iPhone or iPad or to other apps, as well as as files, and also determine the aspect ratio. However, projects cannot be exported.
Apple recommends further processing with iMovie or other competing tools such as InShot VN Video Editor or GoPro Quik. Apple has not yet provided any information on when Clips will no longer be supported at all—meaning, not even for existing users. This is likely to happen at the latest when incompatibilities with iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 occur. Because there will be no more updates.
