According to a report, Apple is continuing to work on a first MacBook with additional touch controls. This is reported by Bloomberg author Mark Gurman in his latest article. The device is said to be a MacBook Pro with an OLED screen, which will be launched on the market “at the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027.” The machine, with the internal codenames K114 and K116, will reportedly come with the—as yet unknown—M6 chip and is said to have a “thinner and lighter chassis frame.”

If the report is correct, Apple would already be delivering a touchscreen for the first time with its long-awaited first OLED Mac. This has long been controversial at Apple, where Macs are kept separate from iPads, especially since macOS is still not adapted for finger control. Apple's co-founder Steve Jobs, who died in 2011, was considered an opponent of touchscreen notebooks. However, Apple does not want to omit the keyboard and trackpad; both control variants, i.e., touch display and traditional, are to be retained.

So far, there is only the iPad Pro in its variants with M4 and M5, in which Apple installs larger OLED displays with 11 and 13 inches. That these will come to the Mac has been considered a done deal for years, but this has been postponed several times, at least according to the rumor mill. Gurman assumes that the new devices will be pricier than previous MacBook Pro models, which start at 2000 US dollars (14 inches) and 2500 dollars (16 inches, Euro prices each more expensive), respectively.

It is not yet known whether other Macs will also receive touchscreens. Apple apparently wants to experiment with the MacBook Pro first. The OLED touch strip, the Touch Bar, was also introduced and then removed there. However, Face ID facial recognition is not expected to come to the Mac yet. This will require “several more years,” writes Gurman. However, the MacBook Pro is said to lose the annoying webcam notch; instead, a “hole-punch” design, as known from the current Dynamic Island in the iPhone, is planned.

Gurman has also heard that for 2026, Apple is not only working on M5 Pro and M5 Max variants of the recently released MacBook Pro M5, but also on MacBook Air M5, Mac Studio M5, and Mac Mini M5. The design, however, is said to change little. The new Air carries the codenames J813 and J815. Gurman also speaks of two new displays with the codenames J427 and J527; it remains unclear whether these will be two new Studio Displays or a new Pro Display XDR.
