Hardware Details: Important Minor Details on the Three New Apple M5 Devices
iPad Pro M5, MacBook Pro M5, and Vision Pro M5 internally deliver some long-awaited innovations. An overview.

Apple's new M5 devices don't just come with faster chips; the manufacturer has also changed a lot internally. Some of it is commendable, while in other areas one would have wished for more. The latter includes, for example, the fact that Apple has completely omitted the power adapter from the MacBook Pro M5—apparently to comply with new EU regulations, even though these actually leave customers with a choice. But that's far from all.
MacBook Pro M5: Useful Innovations
The MacBook Pro M5, which will initially only be available in a 14-inch format, comes with up to twice the SSD performance of the MacBook Pro M4. The “latest storage technology” is used here, according to Apple. This affects both write and read speeds. The problem: Apple is currently not providing any details, and benchmarks are still pending.

Furthermore, the MacBook Pro M5 can now be configured with up to 4 TB on request. Previously, it stopped at 2 TB. However, this costs a whopping 1250 euros more compared to the 1 TB version. And: The M5 Max and M5 Pro variants of the MacBook Pro M5, expected in early 2026, are likely to hold up to 8 TB (if not more) each.
Vision Pro M5: Storage remains unchanged
Apple was frugal with the Vision Pro 2, also known as Vision Pro M5. Instead of using the upgrade to the new chip to also expand the storage—a maximum of 32 GB would have been possible—it remains at the previous 16 GB.
Nevertheless, Apple promises up to 10 percent increased pixel throughput, 120 Hz playback for less blurry passthrough, and a slightly longer battery life (two and a half instead of two hours in standard operation). The $(LB4957116: is included with the devices, but the second band is omitted. In the USA, Apple also includes its new dynamic 40W power adapter, which is not yet available in Europe.
iPad Pro M5: Not just a new processor
With the iPad Pro M5, Apple has not only installed the new SoC but also delivered similar improvements as with the MacBook Pro M5. The internal flash memory is also read and written twice as fast as with the M4 predecessor.
Apple's new Wi-Fi Bluetooth chip, the N1, is also installed, as is the newer C1X modem chip in the 5G model. The latter promises 50 percent faster throughput under ideal conditions.
