Matches from Major League Soccer have so far been available for an extra fee. Now, some free games are also planned.

Apple is trying to attract new subscribers to its American soccer offering. According to a report from the sports publication Sportsbusinessjournal.com, playoff matches of Major League Soccer (MLS), which Apple actually sells as a paid add-on, are to be offered for free to regular Apple TV subscribers (formerly: Apple TV+). This apparently involves a total of ten games—five from the Eastern Conference and five from the Western Conference of the league. In addition to US teams, Canadian teams are also participating.
18 teams compete for the MLS Cup 2025
For European soccer fans, the MLS is particularly interesting because well-known stars from domestic leagues and international national teams play their final years here until the end of their careers. For example, former Bayern player Thomas MĂĽller came to the MLS (now Vancouver Whitecaps), as did David Beckham (LA Galaxy) until 2012, or Lionel Messi (Inter Miami). The MLS playoffs begin on October 22nd, which is tomorrow, Wednesday.

The series, sponsored by Audi, is the postseason competition held in the fall and winter (usually until December). Last year, LA Galaxy was the winner, and in 2025, 18 teams from the league will participate. The highlight is the MLS Cup 2025 on December 6th.
MLS Season Pass normally costs money
Match previews can already be found in Apple's TV app and can be watched directly. The league hopes to attract more users with the free playoffs. The regular “Season Pass” is currently available for a one-time fee of 49 euros, with the season normally costing double. Those who have an Apple TV subscription pay 39 euros. The monthly price is 14.99 Euros or 12.99 Euros (with an Apple TV subscription). Day passes are currently not available. The MLS Season Pass includes every single match, meaning significantly more games than the playoffs.
Apple continues to try to attract more users in the sports sector. The iPhone company recently announced that it has acquired the Formula 1 rights for the United States. This is an exclusive offer; like with MLS, it will likely be partially paid for Apple TV subscribers as well, at least if additional features like Multiview are desired. In addition to the Grand Prix, Apple also streams free practice, qualifying, and sprint races as part of the existing Apple TV subscription.
