Vision Pro Developer Strap: Apple releases new version
With an add-on for the headset, data can be transferred to the Vision Pro with zero latency. This Developer Strap is now getting a new edition.

Apple's Vision Pro M5 is not only getting a new, more comfortable headband as an accessory: The so-called Developer Strap, which retrofits the headset with a USB-C port, is also due for an update. While the "knitted fabric dual band" is included as standard in the packaging of the "spatial computer" available from 3.700 Euros, the replacement part, also briefly called Dev Strap, still has to be purchased separately. However, the new version can do a bit more than its predecessor.
Up to 20 Gbps Throughput
As can be seen on Apple's Developer website (after logging in with a developer account), the "2nd generation" of the hardware can now be ordered for 329 Euros – that is the previous price. Unlike the Vision Pro M5 itself, Apple has not lowered it, where adjustments were made due to the changed exchange rate. (In the USA, 299 US dollars plus sales tax are charged as usual.)

The new Dev Strap is much faster than its predecessor: Instead of just enabling a "USB-C data connection" whose throughput Apple had not officially disclosed until now, but was likely USB 3.0 at most (5 Gbps), it is now supposed to achieve "up to 20 Gbps". In practice, this should enable more stable and faster connections, especially for file transfers. "The Developer Strap is an optional accessory that creates a USB-C connection between Apple Vision Pro and Mac, accelerating the development of graphics-intensive apps and games," Apple describes the hardware.
Compatible with first Vision Pro
The Developer Strap 2G continues to feature integrated "Dual Driver Audio Pods", i.e. speakers – after all, the strap replaces the previously existing speaker. Compatibility with the Mac remains. Useful: The strap is compatible with both the Vision Pro M5 and the first-generation predecessor (with M2). This is reminiscent of the new headband, which can also be purchased for the old headset for 115 Euros.
Anyone interested in the Dev Strap will need, as mentioned, $(LEhttps://developer.apple.com/:a developer account)_blank) with Apple – this can be created free of charge and is then linked to the Apple account. A special tool is included with the Developer Strap – it is equivalent to a SIM tool and allows you to detach the existing speaker ("Right Audio Strap") so that the Dev Strap can be attached.
