iPhone 17: Spare parts for new Apple phones available for tinkerers
After the repair manuals, Apple has now also released the necessary materials for all new iPhones. As usual, an expensive affair.

Anyone who wants to repair their iPhone from the 2025 model year themselves can now get suitable spare parts from Apple. The so-called Self-Service Repair Store for Apple Products has officially listed the components for Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, and other countries since this week. Shortly before that, Apple's official repair manuals had been released. They are also available in German.
Rich Offerings
All new models that Apple introduced in September are covered: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, as well as the iPhone Air with its entirely new form factor. As usual, the offer is divided into areas such as screen, battery, housing, camera, speakers, and more. In addition to the spare parts, which are all original, the Apple repair shop also sells (or partly rents out) necessary accessories from screwdrivers to assembly equipment for screens.

Almost everything you might need for self-repair can be purchased: batteries, displays, the Tapic Engine vibration machine, microphone, back glass, as well as various screws and other assembly materials. The only annoying thing is that there is no central search, so you first have to click through the device category and then the various repair options. As usual, Apple does not expect complete novices: "Intended for individuals with experience in the complexities of repairing electronic devices," it states laconically about the repair store and its offerings.
Display for 405 Euros
The fundamental problem with Apple's spare parts shop remains the high prices. For example, the battery for an iPhone 17 costs exactly 109 Euros (at least there is a discount of almost 52 Euros when returning the old battery), for the housing and battery 252.02 Euros. A display for this model costs as much as 405 Euros; upon returning the replaced screen, only 20.25 Euros are refunded. At the current stage of the release cycle, most repairs should still fall within the two-year warranty period. Users should also urgently check what the repair would cost directly at Apple and at least schedule an appointment at the Genius Bar in an Apple store (or by phone) to get a quote.
Also annoying: Apple sometimes simplifies repairs too much; for example, the company asks tinkerers to replace entire circuit boards instead of smaller parts. So no one is supposed to grab a soldering iron; only workshops not approved by Apple still do that. The combination of high spare part prices and labor costs can mean that self-repair is only worthwhile in rare cases.
