Crossbody Strap: Apple's iPhone Leash Also Suitable for Cameras
Apple has been selling its own iPhone lanyards for the first time since September. They are not only compatible with smartphones.

Long leash: For the iPhone 17 & Co. as well as the Air, Apple offers a special accessory: Together with a suitable case for the smartphones, you can loop your iPhone around your neck or arm with the Crossbody Strap. However, photographers have found that the accessory, costing 69 euros in its total of ten (!) different colors, is also well suited for carrying a modern camera, such as a full-frame or Super-35 model. This is surprisingly comfortable, as a short test in the Mac & i editorial office showed.
Quickly installed, magnetically practical
The Crossbody Strap consists of the strap itself, which can be easily adjusted, and the necessary small eyelets that are threaded through the designated lanyard holes. This is particularly easy with Apple, as they can be removed completely when you open the press studs. This way, the Crossbody Strap can be quickly attached to a Sony, Canon, or any other camera that has the necessary holes for a carrying strap.

The strap can then be worn comfortably around the neck to be able to raise the camera to your eye at any time. Apple's solution also has integrated magnets that ensure the strap, made of two nylon straps, always lies correctly, so it doesn't get tangled.
Overall quite long, but okay in everyday use
A bit unsightly—but normal for this design—is that to adjust the strap, both sides always have to be changed in length; otherwise, the parts won't connect magnetically correctly and there will be overhangs. The minimum length is sufficient to hold the camera at stomach height (man, 1 meter 80); here one would wish that it could be a bit tighter. Fully opened, the camera dangled too much for us.

Overall, the Crossbody Strap can therefore not only serve as a well-functioning iPhone lanyard (if you have the right case), but is also suitable for photographers. The price of 69 euros should not deter them; there are even more expensive carrying straps in this category. However, Apple's is not made of leather. On the other hand, there are countless colors, from subtle (light gray) to highly visible (neon yellow) to brown, green, and orange tones. Apple has adapted the look to the diverse selection of iPhone cases.
