From Luxury Brand: New iPhone "Sock" Nearly Sold Out
Issey Miyake, a luxury brand from Japan, has tailored a fabric smartphone bag for Apple. The iPhone Pocket is apparently selling well.

Apple's revived iPod socks in a new form are apparently selling extremely well. Shortly after the launch of the iPhone Pocket fabric pouches in select markets last week, almost all models are apparently sold out. The cases, made from a single thread, are available in two sizes and various colors, designed and produced by the Japanese fashion house Issey Miyake. The steep prices did not dampen demand.
Few Stores, Few Countries
Currently, neither the long version for $229.95 in three colors nor the short version in eight shades (each for $149.95) can be purchased from the Apple Online Store. All variants are marked as “sold out.” Checking store inventory also initially yielded none, though this may change. The designer cases, which (without the iPhone) truly resemble socks, are only sold in mainland China, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the USA—online, as well as in select stores, including Paris Saint-Germain, Tokyo Ginza, and SoHo New York.

The iPhone Pocket, manufactured in Japan, is advertised by Apple as featuring “a unique 3D knit construction, the result of Issey Miyake's research and development.” The design is inspired by the concept of “just one piece of fabric.” At least: The new iPhone sock is so flexible that “any” iPhone should fit inside. The difference between the two variants: the shorter one is more of a “handbag,” while the longer one acts as a kind of lanyard.
Individual Pieces Over the Weekend
It is unclear how many units Issey Miyake produced for Apple and whether there will be a rerun. However, the iPhone Pocket is described as a “special edition.” In Japan and elsewhere, there were also own launch events. Unlike the new model, the original iPhone sock, which was on the market between 2004 and 2012, was a bargain: the product sold directly by Apple came with six individual socks to protect the MP3 player for $29.
In France, where the iPhone Pocket is also offered, the long version costs 249.95 euros, and the short version costs 159.95 euros. Individual pieces were still available for order there over the weekend, but they were only delivered within France.
