DJI Osmo Action 6: Action camera with variable aperture
The DJI Osmo Action 6 action camera comes with a 1/1.1-inch square sensor that promises high image quality. The aperture can be varied from f/2.0 to f/4.0.
With the Osmo Action 6 action camera, DJI is targeting the GoPro audience. Externally, the cameras are hardly distinguishable. The Osmo Action 6 features a 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor, which is significantly larger than the 1/1.3-inch model of its predecessor and the 1/1.9-inch CMOS of the GoPro Hero Black 13.
Action cam with variable aperture
Furthermore, the Osmo Action 6 comes with a variable aperture ranging from f/2.0 to f/4.0. This promises good image quality in low light. Action cameras typically come with a fixed aperture. In Auto mode, the camera automatically adjusts the aperture to the lighting conditions.
Square 1/1.1-inch sensor
The 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor of the Osmo Action 6 has 2.4 ÎĽm pixels and is said to offer up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range. According to the manufacturer, it captures high-contrast scenes.
The camera is also said to film in 4K/120fps in dark environments with clarity and detail. In SuperNight mode, it records at only 4K/60fps. The camera's electronics suppress unwanted image noise. DJI's 10-bit D-Log M color system is designed to preserve details in highlights and shadows for post-processing.
The camera interpolates Full HD footage for slow-motion at 1080p/240fps to four times the frame rate, equivalent to recording at 960fps. DJI calls this 32x super slow-motion.
4K Custom Mode: Crop later
With the new 4K Custom mode, DJI is responding to the trend of 360-degree cameras. Users can simply record with the DJI Osmo Action 6 and decide in post-production whether they want to orient their 4K video horizontally or vertically.

Color-accurate underwater shots
According to the manufacturer, the camera is waterproof up to 20 meters without a housing and up to 60 meters with the separately available waterproof housing, thanks to its IP68 protection rating. The integrated color temperature sensor promises underwater colors without color cast; a manometer records diving data.
The battery is said to last for 4 hours and can be recharged to 80 percent in 22 minutes. 50 GB of storage is integrated. The camera can be controlled via gestures and tracks subjects independently.
Optional attachable lenses
A separately available macro lens promises shallow depth of field for close-ups, such as of small pets or flowers. It reduces the minimum focus distance from 35 cm to just 11 cm.
When the "FOV Boost Lens" is attached, available for 59 Euros, the camera automatically switches to Field-Of-View Boost mode. It expands the native 155° field of view to 182°, an extreme wide-angle perspective for immersive point-of-view shots.
