Many fixes, few innovations: Will iOS 27 be a new Snow Leopard?
After Liquid Glass in iOS 26, more calm is expected for iOS 27 – Apple primarily wants to improve internally. However, this does not apply to all areas.

Many users would probably wish for this: After the major Liquid Glass redesigns in iOS 26 with a new interface and various changes to operation, the upcoming iOS 27, expected in autumn 2026, is primarily intended to focus on bug fixes and internal improvements. However, significant innovations are to be expected in at least one system area, reports Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman in his Sunday newsletter.
The dream of a new Snow Leopard
According to this, iOS 27 will be a kind of new Snow Leopard. In 2009, Apple decided to focus primarily on product maintenance after various problems with the previous version of the Mac operating system. The usual numerous new functions were at least partially cancelled. Similar things could now also apply to iOS 27. The goal is therefore to improve software quality and increase internal performance. In addition to iOS 27, this is reportedly also planned for iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and the other new systems.

“With the goal of improving the software, the development teams are currently scouring Apple's operating systems searching for redundant elements that can be removed, bugs that need to be fixed, and opportunities to significantly improve performance and overall quality,” writes Gurman, citing insiders. In fact, iOS 27 (as well as the other new operating systems) are considered comparatively unstable. There are graphic errors, freezes, unexpected battery drain, and overall slow performance. In some cases, this resolves itself after some usage time, but there are still all sorts of bug fixes for Apple to complete. An overall review would therefore be extremely welcome.
AI is to be beefed up
However, iOS 27 and co. will not be entirely without new features. According to Gurman, Apple will at least add to the AI sector, i.e., Apple Intelligence—the demand is known to be high. However, there will also be improvements in the spring with updates to iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26. The core could then come from Google (Gemini).
Agentic innovations are likely in store for the new operating systems—for example, for the health sector and AI search. Apple is also still experimenting with its chatbot. This also appears to be ready at the earliest next autumn, if Apple does not decide against it entirely.
