Apple is currently preparing the release of iOS 26.2 – the second major update for its current mobile operating system, which was first released in September. Based on the existing beta versions for developers and private testers, it's possible to infer what the iPhone manufacturer is planning. We provide an overview and offer an assessment of when the update is likely to be released.
Design changes, lock screen, live translation
In iOS 26.2, Apple is again making visual adjustments to its system. For the first time, it will be possible to define the transparency level of the clock display on the lock screen – there is a new slider for this.
The Liquid Glass settings now clearly state that the colored option, which was added in iOS 26.1, cannot be used together with the accessibility features "Increase Contrast" and "Reduce Transparency".

The popular Measure app is getting a new Liquid Glass design for the leveling function – in the form of virtual glass bubbles. Apple has also enhanced the menu animations – they now match the look that was presented at the WWDC developer conference when iOS 26 was introduced. Also new for the first time is the Live translation, which Apple has specifically adapted for the EU to meet its data protection requirements.
Health, Reminders, AirDrop
In the Health app, Apple has worked on the Sleep Score. This now has a slightly clearer classification from "very low" through "okay" to "very high". The Reminders app gains the ability to set an alarm to remind you of individual tasks. The "Snooze" option is reminiscent of the one for the alarm clock in iOS 26.1. The AirDrop data transfer function offers the ability to generate one-time codes that then enable sending for 30 days – after which it is deactivated.
There are also minor innovations in Apple Music (offline lyrics), Podcasts (automatic chapters, mentions of other podcasts, link access), Freeform (now supports tables), Passwords (management of websites without password storage), and Accessibility (notifications light up the entire screen, not just the flash LED on the back).
And when will iOS 26.2 be released? We currently expect this to happen in the first half of December. Along with iOS 26.2, iPadOS 26.2, macOS 26.2, watchOS 26.2, and tvOS 26.2 are also expected – as well as visionOS 26.2.
