Firmware updates for various Apple accessories: This is how the update works
Apple has equipped trackpads, keyboards, and even a power adapter with new software. The update is not entirely straightforward.

Apple has equipped a whole range of products, which are usually updated only rarely with new firmware. At least four frequently used peripheral devices are affected, but there could be more.
Power adapters also have firmware
As code leak expert @aaronp613 has discovered, these include a variant of the Magic Keyboard (keyboard without a numeric keypad), two Magic Trackpad variants, and a higher-wattage Apple power supply. The information can be found most easily in the System Information, which independent AppleDB also collects the current status. It remained unclear whether there are also updates for the Magic Mouse or other power adapters.

The 140-watt USB-C power adapter receives firmware 1.4.84 – previously it was 1.4.73. For the magic keyboard with USB-C, it goes from 3.1.4 to 3.19. For the Magic Trackpad with USB-C, Apple has updated from 3.1.3 to 3.1.9, and for the Magic Trackpad 2, from 3.1.1 to 3.1.8. Apple did not provide details on what is new in each case. However, especially with keyboards, it can happen that there are security-relevant improvements.
This is how the update works
macOS currently has no way to force updates for input devices and power adapters. Users must therefore wait for the operating system to act on its own. To achieve this, you should keep the charged devices connected to the Mac for a longer period, preferably via cable. How and when the power adapter is updated is also unclear, but here too, the rule is: keep it connected and wait.
Afterward, you can check in the system settings whether the current status has been reached. Initially, it also remained unclear whether the very latest macOS version is needed for the updates or if earlier versions before macOS 26 Tahoe can also update the products. The firmware is usually supplied as part of the operating system. Apple will make macOS 26.2 and presumably also macOS 15.7.3 available in December. We expect this in the first half of December. Apple had recently switched its input devices completely to USB-C but made no other changes. For example, the Magic Mouse still has its charging port on the underside.
