Fraimic is presenting a digital picture frame at CES in Las Vegas that is supposed to be able to generate new images on demand. This is made possible by a built-in microphone and AI technology from OpenAI. The AI picture frame comes in two different sizes, one in 36×46 cm and one in 61×92 cm – that's 14×18 and 24×36 inches, respectively. In its own shop, the picture frames can be pre-ordered for 347 or 869 Euros, and delivery is expected to start in the spring. Thanks to the color E-Ink display, they are expected to last at least five years without needing to be charged from the mains. You should be able to generate 100 AI images per year, and Fraimic promises that no "AI slop" will be produced.

The Fraimic picture frames are equipped with a Spectra 6 display from E-Ink, which is also available in other digital picture frames. It does not flicker and only consumes power when the motif changes. At first glance, the displayed images are hardly distinguishable from prints on paper. However, this is only true when you get within arm's length. From then on, the rather coarse pixel structure of the screen becomes apparent. Fraimic aims to differentiate itself from the competition through its AI connectivity. Images should not only be generatable directly in front of the frame on demand, but also via an app. According to Fraimic, this also allows conventional images to be sent to the picture frame, even without cloud connectivity, directly within the WLAN.

To have the picture frame generate a new image, you first have to press an invisible button in the mat, after which the microphone is activated. The AI technology is supposed to create "breathtaking, coherent artworks" from simple descriptions thanks to "expertly created style templates." However, those who don't like such "AI art" can also use the picture frame; according to Fraimic, the "Voice-To-Vision" function can be completely deactivated. What remains is a "versatile E-Ink display" for sharing "your favorite artworks and precious photos." The manufacturer also assures that even with activated AI integration, the generated content will not be used to train its own models.
