The Swiss company Pocketbook is showcasing a digital picture frame in A1 format at CES. The company had already caused a stir with its Inkposters at the previous CES. Now it is adding a luxury variant with a 40.5-inch display to its three initial models.

For the Inkposter Duna, Pocketbook is collaborating with the Italian design studio Pininfarina. According to the manufacturer, it is the largest E-paper art display. Pocketbook uses an E-Ink panel with Spectra-6 technology and an IGZO backplane from Sharp. Compared to OLED and LCD picture frames, E-Inks have the advantage that they remain static in position once the page is rendered. They do not flicker, hardly reflect, and only require power for image changes. This allows the Inkposters to be operated battery-powered without bothersome cables. Spectra 6 does not achieve the color depth of OLEDs and LCDs; Pocketbook speaks of a maximum of 60,000 colors. Art prints, in particular, look printed on it, while the technology reaches its limits with color photos. Pocketbook omits a crucial detail in its announcement: the resolution of the panel. The sister models of the Inkposter Duna display between 150 (13.3 inches) and 94 dpi (31.5 inches).
According to the manufacturer, thousands of licensed works can be loaded onto the picture frame via the associated app, from vintage graphics and modern illustrations to classic motifs. Users can also display their own images on the picture frame, which can be hung in portrait or landscape format.

The designers at Pininfarina are contributing the frame for the E-Ink poster. It measures almost 112 Ă— 86 centimeters. The frame, handmade according to the press release, is made of bent metal and Alcantara. Pocketbook envisions it finding its place as a design object in living rooms as well as in hotel lobbies. And it is priced accordingly: Pocketbook is asking 6000 Euros for the Inkposter Duna. Pocketbook is also adding a variant without the extravagant Pininfarina frame to its product range, for 4500 Euros. The prices for the smaller sister models start from 700 Euros.
