OmniOutliner: Planning and Thinking Tool Reaches Version 6
The outlining editor OmniOutliner is one of the classic Mac apps. Now there is a completely new version – also for iOS and iPadOS.

Outliners are practical: thanks to structured information input, these outlining editors can be used to organize thoughts, create to-do lists, plan ideas, or implement creative projects. For many years, OmniOutliner from The Omni Group has been popular on the Mac. The app has been continuously developed and is also available for iPhone and iPad – and most recently for the Vision Pro. With Version 6, a whole range of innovations is now coming to the app, including AI.
One Purchase for All Variants
Commendable: OmniOutliner is offered as a so-called Universal Purchase. This means you buy the app once and can use it on all supported Apple devices. However, from now on, the latest operating system is partly required: at least iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and visionOS 26. On the Mac, however, you can get started with macOS 15.

OmniOutliner 6 comes with a new look on all platforms, has been adapted to Liquid Glass, and features new icons. Dynamic themes now automatically switch to dark mode on demand. There is a new template picker that works across platforms and automatically adopts various settings. Documents can be linked to each other via Omni Links, including shared documents. There are further improvements to attachments – for example, images can be enlarged and reduced, attachments can also be used in the Essentials edition of the app (instead of just Pro), and it offers improved filters (with Nested AND/OR NOT rules) and extended date settings. In terms of AI, OmniOutliner 6 now provides support for Omni Automation, which offers various automation possibilities. Locally running Apple base models are used for this.
“Brand New” Vision Pro App
Document management has been optimized for iPhone and iPad – for faster creation of new documents, including iCloud Drive usage. Documents can be “styled” more freely, saved filters now also run on mobile devices, and attachments work together with the Files app, the Photo Library, and the camera. According to The Omni Group, the Vision Pro app is “brand new” and should contain all important features.
OmniOutliner 6 is distributed via the manufacturer's website but also via the App Store (Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Vision Pro). Prices depend on the feature set: the standard version (“Essentials”) costs 25 US dollars as a one-time payment, and the Pro license costs 100 dollars. Future major updates will be available at a discount price (presumably then Version 7).
