Disney+ in Germany: No more 3D movies on Vision Pro
The already quite small offering of 3D content from Disney+ for Apple's headset has now completely melted away.

If there's a killer app for the Vision Pro, it's video playback: it can transport you into a virtual cinema that you could hardly set up in your home at this screen size. Immersive content and 3D films are particularly exciting. While the former are primarily driven by Apple, there's now a setback for 3D films: Disney+, one of the first streaming services to be on board under visionOS, has completely removed its entire offering in Germany.
Small offering even before
It is currently unclear why this has happened. Disney+ itself confirms this in a support document. “NOTE: 3D content is currently not available on Disney+ in Germany,” it simply states. Instead, the entertainment group is apparently more interested in vertical videos, with which it wants to reach younger target groups.

Even before that, the offerings in this country were rather meager. While there are several dozen 3D films for the Vision Pro in the USA, there were perhaps two handfuls in Germany. Confusingly: The special, Disney-owned immersive environments, including Tatooine from “Star Wars” and the Avengers Tower from the Marvel universe, are still available, but you can now only watch 2D content in them.
With VPN to the 3D paradise
In Germany, Disney+ costs between 7 and 16 Euros, with only the most expensive tier (Premium) enabling 4K UHD and HDR – 3D was included here. Many users who own a Vision Pro likely purchased Premium because of the 3D content. They are now left with nothing. Confusingly, it is still possible to watch Disney+ 3D content: you just have to pretend the service that you are “traveling.” A VPN where you select a US location is sufficient for this. The entire offering from the US can then be seen. However, it remains unclear how long this will work and whether you will have problems with your subscription if you use the access method permanently.
Mac & i has asked Disney why the 3D shutdown in Germany has occurred. The company should actually have the rights, but depending on the cooperating production company, this could be different. However, it does happen that previously available 3D films are still available in 2D. The quality of the 3D films was decent, although not ideal for the high-resolution Vision Pro; the format used technically leads to quite pixelated images. It is advisable to download the films beforehand. The 3D effects also vary in quality depending on the film.
