Sky Deutschland rings in the end of DVB-C
Vodafone is reorganizing its cable TV networks. Many Sky channels will therefore switch to IPTV from February. This means more programs for customers.

Sky Deutschland cable customers need to switch. From February 10th, the pay-TV provider will switch off a number of its programs in the classic Vodafone cable network. Instead, broadcasting will be done via IPTV in the future, i.e., as a stream over the internet. Affected customers will receive a letter, according to digitalfernsehen.de, offering them an internet-enabled SkyQ receiver. Reception is also possible with the Sky Stream Box. The switch does not initially affect the Sky Sport channels, which, according to the pay-TV provider, will continue to be receivable via DVB-C.

The background to the campaign is the ongoing reorganization of frequencies in the Vodafone network. Depending on the region, these have been divided differently so far and will be standardized in the coming months. The goal is to create free frequencies that will benefit Vodafone internet users for higher throughput.
More programs, more in HD
For Sky customers who watch via Vodafone, this offers the advantage, among other things, that they will receive the six additional channels Cartoon Network, Crime+Investigation, Heimatkanal, Jukebox, Motorvision+, and Nicktoons, which were previously only available via satellite. In addition, Sky intends to switch the programs Cartoonio, History Channel, Nick Junior, Romance TV, Warner TV Comedy, and Warner TV Film to HD quality from March 3rd.
