According to a report by the Reuters news agency, the Chinese company ByteDance intends to introduce stricter age checks on its online platform TikTok. A new system, which has been tested in Great Britain for over a year, is to be used. It analyzes profile information, published videos, and behavioral patterns within an account to predict whether it might be operated by a minor under the age of 13.
In case of matches, users will not be automatically blocked, but the result will be reviewed by specialized moderators. This is intended to help reduce errors while ensuring compliance with the rules.

The changes are apparently due to the growing concern of European authorities that young users can easily sign up with incorrect birth dates. EU authorities have repeatedly urged social media operators to more effectively block accounts of minors and restrict children's access to adult content and advertising. The EU has also warned that platforms may face fines or restrictions if they do not adequately protect minors. ByteDance wants to start the rollout in the coming weeks, according to the report.
