Apple's game titles adapted for the Vision Pro as part of its Arcade subscription will be expanded with an interesting new title: On February 5th, „Retrocade“ will reach the headset. The title is described as “Your all-access pass to the golden age of arcades” and includes a total of seven well-known titles in one app. Even the iPhone and iPad versions of „Retrocade“ aim for a realistic look – including their screen display, which resembles a CRT monitor. The animations of the buttons and joysticks are also intended to be realistic. However, the Vision Pro version goes a step further: it brings arcade machines into augmented reality using passthrough.

These can then be placed in the middle of the room and are intended to be played realistically using finger control. However, how exactly this works is still unclear. The game collection is officially announced for February 5th, along with, among others, „Civilization 7“, which is receiving its first mobile version as part of Apple Arcade.

The game titles included with „Retrocade“ are all very well-known: they are „Asteroids“, „Bubble Bobble“, „Breakout“, „Centipede“, „Galaga“, „Pac-Man“, and „Space Invaders“. Thus, Atari Interactive, Taito, and Bandai Namco have delivered. In the game description, „Tetris“ is also mentioned in the area of trademark rights, although nothing of this title is visible in the app so far – moreover, it is not an arcade classic.

„Retrocade“ was developed by Resolution Games AB from Stockholm. The company has focused on VR and AR games and has brought, among others, „Pickle Pro“ to market. Apple Arcade is available for a comparatively low €6.99 per month.

The annoying thing about the service: titles are not part of the program forever and could be removed later – they might then end up in individual sales or free with in-app purchases in the App Store. Apple Arcade itself, on the other hand, offers fully unlocked games without paid add-ons or subscriptions (except for the payment for Arcade itself).
