India: Apple teaches factory workers Swift
25 percent of all iPhones are reportedly manufactured in India. Apple is now launching a training campaign there – also with Swift and robotics.

Apple has launched a new educational initiative in India to potentially find new engineers and developers among its manufacturers' employees. The so-called Education Hub has been specifically set up for this target group and collaborates with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) in the state of Karnataka.
Broad educational offering first at Tata
The educational center is to be established in Bengaluru and complements previous “skill building and training programs” that the company had initiated. Starting in March, there will be various new courses that employees of suppliers at 25 locations across the subcontinent will be able to use. The first participating manufacturer is Tata Electronics, as Apple announced.

As part of a new curriculum, the workers there will be able to learn, among other things, digital skills, Apple's programming language Swift, automation technologies, and robotics, in addition to “Smart Manufacturing.” Apple has set up a 50 million US dollar “Supplier Employee Development Fund” for such and similar initiatives at its manufacturers.
India as the new China
Vice President Sarah Chandler, responsible for “Supply Chain Innovation,” said that they want to use “the same spirit of innovation that drives our products” to support the people in their own supply chain. The approach is reminiscent of similar measures, for example, in China, which, thanks in part to Apple, has grown into the most important electronics location worldwide over the past 25 years. The company now wants to achieve something similar in India.
Already, 75 different courses are said to be available in India, covering not only technology but also personal development, health, and so-called “Rights Awareness Training.” Apple also intends to invest significantly more money in a robotics education program that has been running since 2024. Courses and further training for people with disabilities are also offered, reaching 18,000 people, according to Apple. The total number of supply chain employees trained was not disclosed.
