Apple is preparing for major festivities to mark its 50th company anniversary on April 1st. This was stated by CEO Tim Cook during an all-hands meeting with all employees last week. At the meeting, the CEO also answered questions – including how long he would remain at Apple, after there had been reports about his imminent retirement. Cook turned 65 last November.
Anniversary to be Celebrated
According to his speech, which Bloomberg published, Cook said he was thinking about the past “unusually much” right now, although that's not something Apple usually focuses on. “Our culture is about not looking back.” Apple is always about the next project. Nevertheless, the company is planning a celebration. “It's definitely coming.”

However, management is not yet ready to reveal exactly how this will happen, Cook said. But they have recently been looking through old archives, old photographs, the products, services, and people of past decades. “I've been impressed by how Apple has changed things, changed the world, given something to the world.”
Careful Succession Planning
Regarding whether he would retire soon, Cook was only vague. He emphasized that Apple engages in careful succession planning. He himself is “obsessed” with identifying “who will be sitting in this room in five years, 10 years, or 15 years.” Succession arrangements should not be a surprise for Apple; that's an important part of leadership. Of course, it's normal for people to retire at a certain age. That's only natural. Cook did not mention that there had actually been surprises in management, such as the departure of software designer Alan Dye.
At the all-hands meeting, Cook also addressed Apple's AI catch-up, praising the acquisition of the company Q.AI, which can recognize speech without a voice. AI is one of the most important opportunities of our entire lives so far, Cook said – repeating similar previous statements. More and more people are using Apple Intelligence and Visual Intelligence. Cook expects significant growth in India. It is already an important market.
