iPhone 16e and iPad Air: Current devices hard to get in certain markets
Apple often slowly phases out older models before introducing new variants. This appears to be the case with two devices now.

Anyone interested in last year's iPhone 16e will find it difficult to obtain immediately in some markets. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple retail employees have told him that device stock has almost “dried up.” However, a look at the Apple Online Store shows no delays, at least for Germany. Here, the devices, available for 699 euros, can still be picked up today at a manufacturer's retail store or ordered by post for Saturday delivery. Gurman claims to have heard similar information about the iPad Air, where there is said to be a “shortage.” Here too, at least in the Apple Online Store for Germany, the current M3 variant doesn't seem to be affected. However, it is conceivable that these are old stocks being sold off.
The situation was similar with the MacBook Pro in January
For many years, short-term poor availability has been considered a relatively reliable indicator that Apple is about to release new products. However, something similar happened in January with the MacBook Pro M4 Pro and M4 Max. The new M5 Pro and M5 Max models have still not been released. Gurman, who has a good reputation in the Apple rumor mill and connections within Apple, currently assumes that iPhone 17e and iPad Air M4 will be released “in the coming weeks.”

In addition, there may be MacBooks plus possibly a new standard iPad. However, MacBook Air M5 and new desktop Macs with M5 (mini, Studio, iMac) are considered less certain and could take a few more months.
Spec Bumps – Entry-level iPhone now annually?
iPhone 17e and iPad Air M4 are likely to be primarily spec bumps. For the iPad Air, little may change except for the jump to M4; Apple might equip the devices with better cameras. For the iPhone 17e, a current chip from the iPhone 17 is said to be integrated, and observers are also hoping for a new look with Dynamic Island and MagSafe with magnets – the absence of which particularly bothers many 16e owners.
It would be new if Apple were to update the entry-level series annually, but the rumor mill firmly believes it. An iPad 11, on the other hand, is reportedly set to be Apple Intelligence-capable for the first time and receive the chip from the iPhone 15 Pro.
