The VR treadmill Omni One will support Meta Quest in the future. Little is likely to change regarding the high purchase price.

US manufacturer Virtuix has joined the "Made for Meta" program, becoming an official partner for Quest accessories. Its product Omni One is therefore the first VR treadmill certified by Meta.

The partnership stipulates that Virtuix will make Omni One compatible with the headsets and content of the Quest ecosystem. This gives Virtuix access to by far the largest VR platform, while Quest users get the opportunity to experience VR games in a new way.

Virtuix previously cooperated for years with Meta's competitor Pico, offering its VR treadmill together with a customized Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise including controllers.

Omni One is a VR treadmill for home use that was launched in the USA in the fall of 2024. Even though "VR treadmill" is the common term for this type of product, Omni One is not really a treadmill: the product consists of a circular shell on which users walk with special sliding shoes, while foot trackers translate steps into virtual movement. Several straps attached to a movable arm ensure the necessary safety.

Omni One is intended to create the illusion of physical movement in virtual worlds while simultaneously curbing motion sickness. Users should be able to walk, run, crouch, and jump with it.

Virtuix has so far marketed the product as a complete VR system including platform, VR headset, and controllers, as well as its own game store. At launch, this included around fifty well-known VR games optimized for use with Omni One. Furthermore, the treadmill is also compatible with PC VR games. The system is around 1.2 m wide and weighs 68 kg, but is said to be relatively easy to move around the room thanks to integrated wheels.

The US prices provide a rough indication of how expensive the Omni One could be in Europe – if it ever comes to Europe.

The current price for the system, including the VR headset is 3,495 US dollars. Virtuix also offers a version for pure PC VR use. It does not include a VR headset or controllers and contains a Bluetooth dongle for wireless PC connection. This package costs 2,595 US dollars. Virtuix currently only delivers within the USA.

How the planned integration into the Quest ecosystem will affect these packages, prices, and availability is still unclear. Virtuix plans to announce further details on product compatibility and the schedule at a later date. Virtuix CEO Jan Goetgeluk told the VR trade blog Road to VR that they want to make many Quest games usable for the system.

VR treadmills remain a niche product, which is why Virtuix has little direct competition. In the „Made for Meta“ program, the Omni One is not the only unusual Quest accessory. Meta also lists a motorized swivel chair and two haptic vests as immersion enhancers. In addition, products from larger partners such as Logitech and Anker are represented.
