Device compatibility: Minor updates for iOS, iPadOS and macOS
With a mini-update, Apple is providing owners of iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It adapts to new hardware.

Not only a lot of new hardware was released by Apple this week, but also fresh software. In the early hours of Thursday, Apple updated iOS, iPadOS, and macOS to a more current version. All three updates are version number 26.3.1 and serve to make iPhones, iPads, and Macs compatible with the new products.
iPhone on the Studio Display
macOS 26.3.1, also known as Tahoe, adapts compatible Macs – which do not include Intel machines – to the Studio Display 2 and Studio Display XDR. The devices will be released on March 11. It remained unclear at first whether further content and bug fixes were included in the update. According to Apple, iOS 26.3.1 and iPadOS 26.3.1 contain such fixes but otherwise only add support for the two new screens. iPhones and iPads can be connected to them and used for displaying content, as is already the case with other screens.

The Studio Display 2 is the direct successor to the Studio Display and brings only a few innovations, including improved speakers and Thunderbolt 5. The Studio Display XDR replaces the Pro Display XDR. Both screens have a 5K resolution on a 27-inch screen diagonal. The XDR variant for 3500 euros comes with HDR thanks to Mini-LED backlighting and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz. Apple had removed the outdated Pro Display XDR from its product line.
Further Updates with a Special Target Group
In addition to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS 26.3.1, Apple has also released update 18.7.6 for iOS, which runs on older devices that can no longer use iOS 26 – specifically iPhone XR and XS. The update resolves problems with contacting emergency numbers in Australia that arose after a system change. Apple had already delivered the important fix in even older iOS versions, including even iOS 16.
However, the manufacturer needed several attempts for the necessary adjustments, and updates were therefore temporarily withdrawn. Security-relevant bug fixes are not included in the freshly released updates. Apple writes on its security updates portal that no published CVE entries exist for these.
