"Fun and friendly": Why the MacBook Neo is called what it is
With the MacBook Neo, Apple is entering new market segments. This needs explanation – the company is sending a marketing director ahead.

Apple's first new Mac since the Mac Studio introduces a new naming scheme: After MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and the MacBook without a designation (discontinued in 2019), comes the MacBook Neo. But what did Apple have in mind with the unusual name? A marketing director of the company gave a small insight into the thought process. At the London "Special Apple Experience", Colleen Novielli, Director Mac Product Marketing, stated that the company wanted to create something that felt "fun and friendly and fresh." This fits exactly with the spirit of this product, Novielli told Techradar.
iPhone Neo, iPad Neo
Neo comes from the Greek word "Neos" and means something like "new, young," or "recent." It has been used primarily as a suffix since the second half of the 19th century, with the term being neutral – it can describe a good or bad new development. In any case, the MacBook Neo has nothing to do with the character from "The Matrix." As expected, the company did not want to reveal whether Neo will also come for other products – for example, the iPad or iPhone. She cannot answer that, Novielli said with a smile.

With a starting price of 699 Euros, the MacBook Neo is the cheapest Mac notebook to date – and thus competes in the more affordable Windows segment. "If you think about many of the comparable personal computers that you can get in this price range, what you will find is that it is very easy to make a computer that has features and experience that is just okay."
The first Air cost 1300 US dollars
However, the MacBook Neo is not intended to be like that; it was perfected through attention to detail. Apple assumes it can bring the machine to new target groups, so a kind of democratization of the Mac is imminent. "We are very confident that we will be able to put this amazing new product in the hands of many, many more customers worldwide."
Apple knows what is currently happening in the world and is trying to ensure that the right products are delivered to the right customers at the right time. Novielli recalled that the first MacBook Air had only a single USB-C port. The Neo now has at least two. For the very first MacBook Air, 1699 Euros were charged.
