AppleCare+: Apple reduces device insurance for MacBook Neo
Apple's entry-level notebook costs a maximum of 799 euros. Apple's additional protection was also reduced for this – but less than hoped.

With the MacBook Neo, Apple is launching its cheapest notebook to date this week – starting at 699 euros in Germany, with a 100 euro discount for educational customers. At this pricing, Apple could not simply keep the costs of its frequently booked device insurance program AppleCare+ at the significantly more expensive devices in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air series. As can be seen from Apple's website, the AppleCare+ prices for the Neo have therefore now been lowered, although not as much as one might have expected.
Mac mini cheaper than MacBook Neo
Because the Neo is not the cheapest model. For three years, the cost is 149 euros, and those who opt for an annual plan pay 54.99 euros per year. For comparison: for the 13-inch MacBook Air, it's 219 euros / 78.99 euros, for the 15-inch MacBook Air, 249 euros / 89.99 euros, and for the 14-inch MacBook Pro, 299 euros / 109.99 euros. As expected, the most expensive Apple Care+ is for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Here, Apple wants a hefty 429 euros for three years, or 159.99 euros per year.

AppleCare+ for desktops is cheaper: The Mac mini costs 119 euros for three years and 44.99 euros annually, beating the MacBook Neo. Mac Studio and iMac cost 179 euros and 64.99 euros, respectively. The studio is surprising because it can be configured to be extremely expensive. The hardly purchased Mac Pro finally costs 529 euros for three years, or 189.99 euros per year.
Costs in case of damage
Apple has also provided information on the “deductibles” for certain damages. For housing and display damage, 59 euros are payable, while for other Macs it is 99 euros. Other damage to the device costs 179 euros per incident. This is 80 euros cheaper than for all other Macs (259 euros), but not exactly little given the entry-level price of 699 euros. There are no costs for battery replacement.
The MacBook Neo will be officially available in stores from Wednesday or will be delivered to pre-order customers. In the USA, the prices are even lower than here: the Neo can be purchased from $599, and for educational customers, Apple has set the price at $499. Depending on the state, sales tax is added.
