After the introduction of the MacBook Neo, the iPhone 17e, and various other new Apple products, Apple has made some changes to its product portfolio. As the new hardware replaces older models, the overall portfolio has shrunk. Over a dozen devices previously sold are no longer available directly from Apple and are being cleared out through retailers. It may be worth looking for a bargain here.
These Macs, iPads, and iPhones say goodbye
With the MacBook Air updated to M5, all M4 models (from spring 2025) are being discontinued, affecting both 13-inch and 15-inch variants. Prices for these had already dropped in retail, and they may decrease further in the future. For the MacBook Pro, the M4 Pro and M4 Max models, both 14-inch and 16-inch, have been removed from the lineup. They date from autumn 2024. Apple had already discontinued the MacBook Pro M4 when the MacBook Pro M5 was released in autumn 2025.

For the iPad Air, the M3 models with 11 and 13 inches have been replaced by the iPad Air M4. They were launched in March 2025. The iPhone 16e is also being removed from Apple's offerings and replaced by the 17e. This phone also dates from spring 2025, specifically February.
Accessory Settings – and the RAM Issue
In terms of displays, Apple has replaced the Studio Display with the Studio Display 2026, and the role of the Pro Display XDR is now to be taken over by the Studio Display XDR (although it is 5 inches smaller at 27 inches). Consequently, Apple is discontinuing both the original Studio Display and the Pro Display XDR, including their various configurations. Accessories such as the Vesa mount or Pro Stand for the Pro Display XDR are also being discontinued. Regarding RAM, there are fewer configuration options for professional machines. For example, the Mac Studio can no longer be upgraded with 512 GB RAM.
Such transition periods are usually a good opportunity to acquire older hardware at a lower price. A look at the heise price comparison is helpful here. Apple products are always most expensive at the manufacturer; a few months later, new devices are also available cheaper in retail. Officially discontinued models usually prove to be the cheapest – at least as long as stock is still available in the retail channel.
