Tinder now also with events, live and with AI
Online dating comes to real life. Tinder is testing live events, speed dating and AI support – as well as a horoscope mode.

Making new contacts offline – that is Tinder's new plan. The online dating service is offering a whole range of new features. The classic model of swiping on the couch seems to be slowly being replaced. User numbers have also confirmed this recently. Online dating is no longer as popular as it used to be, at least among younger people.
However, the events are initially to be tested in Los Angeles. It's not about events that Tinder organizes, but about finding matches at events. The app will get a discovery function where events will appear. You can then indicate yourself that you will be there. Tinder writes in the announcement that it could be anything from quiz nights to pottery classes.
Apparently, there will also be new video speed dating outside the USA. These are live video chat events where you can meet people in real time. The first events are planned for spring. Participants have three minutes to get to know each other and decide if it's a match. Then the conversation time can be extended.

AI is supposed to match people
And because the world can't do without AI, Tinder is of course also relying on this help. AI is supposed to suggest more suitable matches. Chemistry is the name of the feature, which was initially tested in New Zealand and Australia and is now coming to the USA and Canada. Why the EU continues to be left out is unclear.
Match Group, which is behind Tinder and also the dating app Hinge, has a cooperation with OpenAI. Accordingly, GPT models are likely to be used for the AI functions. However, it is not known which version it is exactly.
To use Chemistry, you can give Tinder – or OpenAI – access to your own photo library. From this, the AI derives "Insights" that infer personality. The learning mode is supposed to learn in real time which types of people you give a thumbs up to and suggest more people who fit that profile accordingly.
For security and as proof of identity, every user will have to go through a selfie check in the future – this is now being introduced globally.
AI also already checks what is written. In the case of potentially offensive language, Tinder asks if you really want to send it. If you find a received message inappropriate, you can report it directly. Possibly disrespectful content will be pixelated.
In addition to the existing modes, College Mode and Double Date Mode, Tinder is introducing a Music Mode. This involves connecting your account with Spotify and allowing someone you're talking to to discover your music taste. There will also be an Astrology Mode in the future – which, of course, is about compatible zodiac signs. Not that a Cancer would be suggested to an Aries.
