Is Vibe Design coming now?

Google expands Stitch into an AI design editor: users describe interfaces via voice or text, and the AI generates interactive prototypes from them.

Google has fundamentally revised its design tool Stitch. The goal: to transform the previous utility program into a comprehensive work environment for software design. In it, an AI agent accompanies the entire design process. Users describe what they need – the AI generates interface designs from it. Classic wireframes as a starting point should thus no longer be necessary.

New is a voice input, via which users can work directly with the system. According to Google, this allows real-time design variations to be requested ("show me three different menu options"), color palettes to be tested, or entire landing pages to be designed in a dialogue. The AI is also intended to serve as a sparring partner and critically comment on designs.

The new interface is based on an "Infinite Canvas", an infinitely expandable workspace. Images, texts, and code snippets can be stored there as context from which the AI derives designs. An agent manager is intended to help pursue multiple design directions in parallel without losing track.

Static designs can be converted into interactive prototypes with a click. The AI automatically generates logical follow-up screens, thus mapping app workflows that can be clicked through directly in the browser.

So that design specifications do not have to be redefined for every project, Google is introducing the DESIGN.md format. This is a machine-readable Markdown file that contains design rules. It can be extracted from existing websites and imported into other projects or tools. Finished designs can be transferred to development environments such as AI Studio and Antigravity via an MCP server and an SDK.

Google describes this Stitch update in its announcement as "Vibe Design" – inspired by Vibe Coding. The idea: Instead of technical specifications, users describe business goals or the desired effect on end-users, and the AI translates this into concrete interfaces. Accordingly, Google is explicitly targeting both professional designers who want to explore many variations and founders of start-ups who want to implement their first software idea.
