iOS 27: Apple considers Siri app and "Ask Siri" button
The context-aware voice assistant, announced two years ago, is still missing. But for iOS 27, Apple is reportedly planning a major AI push.

Apple is working internally on a major overhaul of its Siri system. The voice assistant is to become a chatbot in the future and be integrated even more deeply into the system, reports the financial news agency Bloomberg, citing insiders. According to the report, the main innovations will come in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, which are expected in the fall. Apple had already announced that it would present AI advancements at its developer conference WWDC 2026 starting June 8. It remains unclear when the features for context-sensitive Siri announced two years ago, which can partially control the iPhone and read the screen, will be released. For iOS 26.4, Apple had not managed this (anymore).
Real chatbot with its app?
According to Bloomberg, the Siri improvements planned for iOS 27 and Co. include a real chatbot mode. Users should finally be able to have longer conversations with the assistant – both by voice and text input. Siri should remember previous conversations, offer a favorites function for chats, and have a search function.

Apparently, this is based on the Nachrichten app. There should also be prompt suggestions. Apple plans not only to integrate Siri into the system but possibly also to offer a standalone Siri app, as is known from Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google), or ChatGPT (OpenAI). This should make it easier to re-enter conversations. According to the report, Siri will continue to be activated via the side button (long press) or the wake word (“Hey Siri” or “Siri”).
Dynamic Island, prompt suggestions, “Ask Siri”
Siri integration will also be available via Spotlight search and is reportedly set to replace it. Siri suggestions, which dynamically suggest apps or content, will likely continue to exist. However, prompt suggestions are also expected to be added here. According to Bloomberg, Apple also plans to integrate Siri into the Dynamic Island on newer iPhones. This should show that the assistant is active and allow Siri to be called up faster. Apple is also considering integrating an “Ask Siri” function into existing apps.
As previously reported, Gemini technology will run in the background of the new Siri. Apple is reportedly spending one billion US dollars a year on this. It remains unclear whether this will take place in Apple's data centers or in Google's cloud. Previously, it was said that parts of the technology that are less complex would be made available in Apple's Private Cloud Compute environment, but full Gemini features require Google servers.
