Mac mini and Mac Studio: Apple cannot deliver certain RAM configurations
Certain desktop Mac variants were already unavailable or had long waiting times. Some are now temporarily removed entirely.

Anyone currently interested in a Mac Studio or a Mac mini M4 will not find all the usual RAM variants at Apple. As soon as you select them in Apple's online store, they are listed as “currently unavailable.” Apple provides no reasons, but observers believe it is due to the effects of the current memory crisis. Certain device variants had already been available only with delays, and in March Apple already removed the 512 GB RAM variant of the Mac Studio without replacement. But now, seemingly “normal” configurations are also affected.
Double RAM not available for Mac mini M4
For example, if you want a 32 GB model of the Mac mini M4, you will be shown that it is temporarily unavailable, and the hardware is also not available in most retail stores. The same applies, for example, to the 64 GB version of the Mac mini M4 Pro. For the Mac Studio, interested parties have to do without the 128 GB variant of the M4 Max, among others. Here, too, it only says, “currently unavailable.”

Apple provides no information as to why the availabilities are as they are – nor when the situation will improve. The only helpful thing might be to take a look at the heise price comparison to find alternative retailers. Availability often looks better here, and prices are usually lower than from the manufacturer itself.
New models coming soon?
Besides the possibility that Apple is affected by the RAM crisis, there could be another explanation: the fact that the company is preparing new series of Mac mini and Mac Studio. However, in this case, configurations are usually listed as delayed but not as completely unavailable. Nevertheless, new models are on Apple's list – the Mac mini M4 was released in November 2024, the Mac Studio M4 Max, and the M3 Ultra in March 2025.
Both machines could be upgraded by Apple to the M5, which is already in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. RAM prices have stabilized somewhat recently. Apple has its memory chips built directly into the SoCs manufactured by TSMC but requires supplies from Samsung, among others.
