Microsoft will permanently discontinue the Android app Outlook Lite on May 25, 2026. From this date, users will no longer have access to their mailboxes; navigation and all functions will be deactivated. Microsoft advises switching to the regular Outlook Mobile app, which offers the full range of functions, including compliance features.
Outlook Lite is a resource-saving version of the Outlook app for Android. Microsoft developed it for devices with weak hardware or poor network connectivity. Compared to Outlook Mobile, it lacks numerous features.
Only one Outlook app
With the discontinuation, Microsoft is consolidating development and support into a single mobile Outlook app. The Play Store has already been blocking new installations of Outlook Lite since October 6, 2025. Tenant configurations, policies, or backend services will not change during the transition. User accounts will remain, as will all emails, calendar entries, and attachments; they will continue to be available after logging into Outlook Mobile.

Microsoft recommends in the announcement that affected users be actively informed about the shutdown and supported in the transition. Administrators should review and adjust internal documentation and helpdesk instructions if they still refer to Outlook Lite. There are two ways to switch: either users use the upgrade function in the Outlook Lite app (if available) or they manually install Microsoft Outlook via the Play Store and log in with their existing credentials.
