Trouble with current NordVPN app for macOS
NordVPN Mac users report connection/usability issues after v10 update. A hotfix (10.0.4) is expected today to resolve the problems.

Anyone using NordVPN's Mac client might be experiencing difficulties currently: numerous users on Reddit and other forums are reporting various errors after the major update to version 10 of the app. This is distributed, among other places, via the Mac App Store and allows for service management; for example, you can select which technology should be used and which outgoing IP address will be utilized. Now, it happens that the connection is not maintained and re-establishes itself every few minutes to seconds, it was stated. Problems also occurred with DNS settings and the kill switch function, which could not be deactivated for a time. Overall, the app is said to run slowly and cause usability issues. Users could not fix the issue even after several restarts.

Neither the mobile nor the Windows versions of the NordVPN client are reportedly affected, and some Mac users are not seeing the errors either. It is currently unclear why this is the case – the software may work differently depending on the operating system used, such as macOS 15 (Sequoia) or 26 (Tahoe). NordVPN has since confirmed the problem and stated that they have identified “slower app behavior, lags when navigating between settings screens and tabs, and increased CPU load.”

This is a known issue and the engineers are currently in the process of “identifying and implementing” a solution. NordVPN apologizes for this. It is now clear when the solution will arrive: A hotfix to version 10.0.4 is to be rolled out later today, Friday; version 10.0.3 is currently being distributed. Those who had not updated to NordVPN 10 beforehand were spared this behavior.
Manual configuration is also possible
It can be helpful beforehand to clear the app's cache, which, however, requires a trip into system folders – only users who know what they are doing should do this.
The incident shows that with VPN providers, it is not always advisable to use their own clients, which also sometimes interfere deeply with the system. Most companies also allow manual configuration of the service in parallel. This is also the case with NordVPN, at least if you use OpenVPN. Configuration files can be downloaded here. This method is not officially supported for WireGuard, but there are instructions on how to access the data.
