Apple managers on smart glasses and whether Neo is a cut-down Air
After Apple's product fireworks in March, Head of Technology John Ternus and Head of Marketing Greg Joswiak have commented on the company's further strategy.

Apple believes that the spatial computing introduced with the Vision Pro will be “inevitable” in the future – and with it, even if the company doesn't say so, probably smart glasses too. In an interview with the tech blog Tom's Guide, the company's worldwide marketing chief, Greg Joswiak, said the combination of the digital and physical world cannot be stopped. “That's what spatial computing was all about.” However, he couldn't give a timeline for when it will happen. But the Vision Pro has shown what the future could look like.
Connecting physical and digital worlds
Currently, Apple does not offer its own smart glasses like those from Meta. Apparently, however, there are plans to launch several variants with only cameras, microphones and speakers by 2027, and smart glasses with screens a few years later. As usual, Apple does not comment on unknown products, but the rumors are intensifying. The Meta glasses, created in collaboration with Ray-Ban, are said to be a sales success, at least according to Meta itself. However, there has recently been massive criticism of data protection for the devices.

In the interview, Apple's Head of Technology John Ternus was also asked, who commented on the MacBook Neo, among other things. The device is completely different from the competition, according to Ternus. “The products in this space that (the Neo) is competing against, they're plastic. You can literally flex them.” They are “so cheap” because companies try to save money everywhere. Apple's approach is different: a lower price with high value.
The Neo is not a cut-down Air
Joswiak emphasized that the Neo is not simply a cut-down MacBook Air. “There’s so much new in the MacBook Neo. We have a completely new trackpad design that I think is still better than any PC out there. We had to rethink how we made the enclosure, and how it all came together. We didn't lower the bar.” The Neo is a “great, high-quality Mac at a fantastic price.”

Ternus also hinted at why the improved AI Siri is still not available. The AI race is still in its early stages for Apple. “We never think about shipping technology,” Ternus explained. “We always think about, how can we leverage technology to ship amazing products and features and experiences for our users?” Joswiak emphasized that AI is a marathon – not a sprint.
